Preparing Asparagus

One more video, this time of Iain prepping up the Asparagus for dinner. Doing a good job of it as well.

Iain discusses his eggs

Here is the second video I promised of Iain from Easter. This time he talks a bit about Easter Eggs, and the color of his hands. Eggbert is a reference to the Backyardigans, for those not familiar with the show.

Iain Dyes some Eggs

The first of two videos from Easter this year. In this video Iain is dyeing up his Easter Eggs. He dyes the eggs again and again and again. Kinda funny.

Reading the Manhole

I got a new, portable video camera. I hope to do more and more video posts as time goes on.

We went for a walk the other day, and Iain decided to take a seat on a manhole cover. He then proceeded to read the letters to me.

Big Boy Bed

What a challenge it turned out to be getting Iain into a big boy bed.  Before we left for Thanksgiving we had a brand new full size mattress and box spring delivered to replace Iain’s crib mattress.  When we purchased Iain’s crib we chose a bed that we thought would look ok to a teenage kid as well as a younger kid…so he could use it for a long time.

Yesterday we set to the task of setting up the new bed.  We took apart the crib bits, and assembled the side rails to the bed.  All went well until we tried to put the slats on the frame.  They were the wrong size, about 2 inches too big.  This made the bed basically unusable.  However, even if the slats had fit correctly we would not be able to use the bed.  I think maybe the bed was designed for use with a mattress and no box spring, or at the very least not as big a set as we bought for him (again with the idea in mind that it would last until he went to college).  When you put both onto the frame (without the slats) the top of the bed was about 4 feet off of the floor and about 1 foot from the top of the headboard.  WAY to high for a baby, or anyone for that matter.  The frame sits up VERY high on the headboard, and while good for underbed storage, it sucks for sleeping.

The mattress and box spring are now on the floor, and we will need to head back to the furniture store to find him another bed frame.  Iain did sleep in his new bed last night, with new bear footprint sheets.  He woke up in the middle of the night with a bit of a nightmare, but I don’t think it was related.  I slept with him for a while to calm him down…much more comfortable now.

Potty Time

Potty training is in full swing around here all thanks to a little letter S on Iain’s daily chart from school last week.  Seems his potty talk has gotten the folks at school trying to get him to use the potty there as well.  So we get lots of little T’s on our daily reports where they have had him TRY to use the potty.  Last week, there was one day where there was an S, and after verification we know that it was indeed a successful use.

So we bought some pull ups for home, and have been working with him to start trying to use the potty at home.  He is not very fond of his potty seat we bought for him.  He likes the little toilet at school.  We will have to work on that one.

We are so proud of him.

Halloween Iain

Iain had a great time for Halloween this year.  He got into the “spirit” of trick or treating and put on the charm at a number of houses in the neighborhood.  I was hoping he would be interested in helping out with pumpkin carving this year, but he was not.  He liked them when they were done though.

Costumes were a bit of work this year in the beginning, but worked out quite well in the end.  We were originally planning for him to be a pirate, he likes pirates.  When we went out the store to get a costume though, he hated the costume.  He also hated the fireman and pretty much every other one we tried.  He only showed interest in the skeleton costume, which they were out of.  Then  he found a hat, and he liked the hat.  In fact he put on the hat and proceeded to run around the store with it on.  It was an train engineers hat, and he likes his trains.  So we figured some overalls, a red cloth, and this hat would make a great costume.  He would not mind since it was just normal clothes, and it would look cute.  Sure enough the plan worked and with the edition of some face paint to give that sooty look we had our selves a costume.  I am not sure if train engineers wear red CROC’s or not though???

What happened to D?

Iain is pretty darn good at his ABC’s.  He can say them all very well, he can even say them pretty fast (although not quite as well in that case).  He can recognize all of his capital letters and is starting to learn the shapes of the lower case letters.  All in all we are pretty impressed with our little two year old.

Funny thing though, is that when he sings the ABC song he sings ” A, B, C’s, E F G…”  Makes us wonder what happened to poor D.  Is this a common thing?  Other kids have this dis’ing the D issue?
